The Alleyway Players are breaking the traditional funk mold. Instead of hiding behind a massive horn section or pre-recorded tracks, this self-contained vocal and instrumental quartet relies on pure, unfiltered human chemistry. Their sound pays direct homage to the golden era of groove.
The band's unique DNA bridges distinct cultural landscapes to create a singular musical language. The front line features an electrifying vocal contrast. Houston native Scottie Billups commands the stage as the lead male vocalist, delivering a deep, Texas-sized dose of classic soul. Matching his power is New Orleans' own Kiera Johnson, the lead female vocalist, who injects the music with the raw, second-line urgency of her hometown.
The band's sonic architecture is built from the ground up by a specialized digital-meets-live backbone. New Orleans native Tyler Reese acts as the group’s mastermind producer. He programs the foundations of the music before layering in minimal live instrumentation to complement the digital tracks. Tyler also lends his voice as a supporting vocalist. Weaving directly into this hybrid production style is Layla Haddad, a musician of Middle Eastern descent who holds down the live keys and adds lush, sophisticated layers with her background vocals.
Every performance by The Alleyway Players is a masterclass in tight vocal harmony, digital precision, and live musical instinct. They do not just play music—they reshape the groove.
"Texas soul meets New Orleans grease and global keys. Harmonies that soar. Funk that bites. Welcome to the alley!"
